3 TIPS FOR ANTIQUE GUN AUCTIONS
Antique gun auctions can be great places to find rare vintage pieces you never knew existed, and you can find them at great prices while learning about the history of firearms. Keep these three tips in mind if you’re new to this fun and unique hobby:
- Unless you’re already well acquainted with them, be sure to learn about the weapons that are up for auction. Sometimes the difference between a valuable antique and a cheap, inferior model can hinge on a single character in the model number or name, and guns made in particular years can sometimes be much more valuable than those from other years due to historical or quality reasons. The legendary ’73 Winchester rifle is a prime example, and asking prices for this memento of the Old West can vary widely depending on the caliber and other factors.
- Have a set budget in mind before you start bidding, and don’t go over it. It’s easy to get bidding fever in an auction environment or get competitive with other bidders, which can sometimes lead to far too much money being spent on an item that you’re not particularly excited about in the first place.
- Be careful whom you deal with, especially if the auction is online. The Internet can sometimes attract less-than-reputable dealers who want to scam customers, so be sure to research the auction and its website to check for satisfied customers. Dury’s Gun Shop is a good option for safe online buying. We’ve been doing business in San Antonio since 1959 and on the Internet for several years.
